HIPET Resuscitation Service

The Assistant Director for Resuscitation at HIPET leads the team of Resuscitation Specialists to provide expert education, clinical support and governance for resuscitation within HMC healthcare facilities.

Key Functions of the Resuscitation Service:

Education and Training:

  • Deliver mandatory and specialist resuscitation courses (BLS, ALS, etc.) to all clinical staff, according to the patient population served (adult/paediatric/newborn), ensuring competency in equipment use, defibrillation and airway management.
  • Undertake mock code/RRT assessments against Key Performance Indicators to identify any areas for improvement and provide targeted training to ensure staff are meeting expected targets.
  • Ensure protocols are followed during emergencies such as cardiac arrests, managing audits, and improving outcomes for critically ill patients.

Clinical Support:

  • Respond to cardiac arrests and medical emergencies, providing expert guidance and direct assistance to the clinical team.
  • Support facilities to create response flowcharts that reflect the scope of service and available skills to maintain a safe system of care, working with other services such as Hamad Medical Corporation ambulance service.

Auditing and Governance:

  • Collect data, conduct audits, review incidents, and implement action plans to improve resuscitation practice.
  • Undertake risk assessments ensuring facilities have equipment and skills available to expand or open new facilities in line with their scope of service and standardisation across HMC.
  • Lead/support corporate and facility resuscitation committee.

Policy & Equipment:

  • Create and advise on resuscitation policies and other policies relating to resuscitation practice such as DNAR.
  • Advise utilising risk assessment for equipment type, amount, placement and maintenance.

Simulation and Research:

  • Organise in-situ simulations and contribute to research to proactively improve emergency response and research new techniques to enhance patient safety and care.
